Making the decision (some say ‘leap of faith’) to establish your own business and leave behind the relative safety of being an employee is not an easy one and not one that many have the courage to actually do.
In early 2011, this is exactly what Tony & Debbie Borromei and Darryl & Michelle Morgan did when they established their engineering drilling services business Austrod Engineering in Henderson, Western Australia.
They were daring and identified a gap in service to the market – going from strength to strength ever since due to their hard work, long hours and exceptional levels of customer service.
“Having good knowledge of the product and the mining industry gave us both the confidence that starting the business should be and would be a success”, stated Tony Borromei.

The team at Austrod recently took delivery in another Mazak CNC Lathe, which is a machine that is used to make other machines that produce virtually everything we use in our daily life.
When asked about the reasoning behind purchasing the new lathe, Borromei said that it “keeps the business at the forefront of new technology as they are always looking for improvement.
The acquisition of the new lathe has also provided Austrod with an opportunity to employ more apprentice, giving the future of Australia a working chance”.
